Hot Tub · Spa · Pool

Wire your hot tub or spa the safe, code-legal way.

Water and electricity are where shocks turn deadly — so a hot tub, spa or pool needs its own GFCI-protected circuit and proper equipotential bonding (NEC Article 680). Astral sizes it, installs the disconnect, and permits and inspects it so it's safe for years.

What safe spa & pool power takes

A hot tub isn't a plug-in appliance — it's a 240V load next to water. Here's what makes it safe and legal.

A dedicated circuit

Most spas need their own 240V GFCI-protected circuit sized to the nameplate — not a shared line.

GFCI protection

A ground-fault interrupter cuts power in milliseconds if current leaks — the difference between a scare and a tragedy.

A code-distance disconnect

A disconnect within sight but at least 5 ft from the water (NEC 680.12).

Equipotential bonding

Pump, rails and reinforcing tied together so there's no voltage difference to shock you.

Panel capacity

A load calc confirms your service can carry the spa — or we size an upgrade.

Permit & inspection

Pulled and passed, so it's safe, legal, and covered.

Questions, answered

What does a hot tub need electrically?▾

Most hot tubs need a dedicated 240V GFCI-protected circuit, a disconnect within sight but at least 5 ft from the water (NEC 680.12), and equipotential bonding so everything around the water sits at the same potential. We size it, install it, and permit it.

Why is bonding such a big deal?▾

Because water plus electricity is where shocks turn deadly. Equipotential bonding ties the pump, rails and reinforcing together so there's no voltage difference to shock you. NEC 680 requires it — and it's exactly the code step a licensed C-10 doesn't skip.

Can't I just plug it in?▾

Some 120V plug-in spas exist, but most need a hardwired 240V GFCI circuit. Either way, the bonding and disconnect rules still apply. We'll tell you exactly what yours needs from the nameplate.

Do you handle the permit?▾

Yes — always. Spa and pool circuits are permitted and inspected. It protects you and your home, and it's the law.
